This always happens in the summer. I start to lag behind writing on this thing. I ASSume because we are doing so much and going outside so much more that there isn't as much "free" time.
1 week ago today sucked huge. The Auction at my Grammy's house. It was awful. I never ever want to do anything like that ever again. I wanted all the people there to leave. I broke down(as did my cousin, my Mom and my Aunts) when they started auctioning off the house. It was just heartbreaking. I was happy we were able to purchase quite a few things that I had wanted. My Grammy told us all to just take what we wanted and we did take a few things but some things that could possibly bring them more cash we wanted to let go up for auction so they could have that cash. I got a bunch of my Grammy's quilts. The best part about them, aside from the fact that my Grammy made them, is that they smell just like my Grammy's house. I hope it takes a long, long time for it to fade. We also got the 2 picnic tables that my Papa made. Anyway, we know who bought the house and we are all disgusted but what can you do? I know I won't be driving past the house for a long, long time. I took this picture of my Grammy at the auction. Isn't she adorable with her rain cap on? It was cold and raining the whole day...very appropriate.
We had a long weekend this past weekend. Memorial day gave Clint the day off yesterday. We were very busy. Saturday we planted some more trees, Clint mowed(it takes him 4 hours to do everything) and we had a picnic and Clint's Dad's house. We also walked down to visit Aunt Betty and Uncle Dave(Emmy's Aunt and Uncle). They just updated their old fence. It looks so nice! They were filling in all the holes and replanting a bunch of plants. They have a pool, it has a tarp like thing over the top of it for the winter. They had a frog go in it and lay a few million eggs. There are millions of little tadpoles swimming all over the thing! Aunt Betty put a bunch of tadpoles in 2 jars for us to bring home so we could watch them morph into frogs. The kids are super excited. We also went fishing for an hour or so. I had wanted to get a fishing license so we could take the kids fishing at the creek near the house but they cost over 20 bucks. I didn't want to pay that for one time of probably more playing in the creek than actually fishing. But, then I saw that the Fish and Boat commission has "Fish for Free" days where you do not need a license to go fishing. Saturday was one of them and June 1 is the other. We plan on going on the 1st also. The kids had fun even though they didn't catch anything.
Sunday, Matty and I were volunteers for the Camera Club at Artsfest. That would've been a lot more fun if I hadn't been feeling like crap. I had caught a cold that Matty had had a few weeks ago. You just feel like a turd on a stick. We were there most of the day, then I came home and went to sleep.
Yesterday, Mom and Dad came up for a small picnic. We ate a lot of good food. Clint planted the tomato plants. And thats about it.
Ozzy is obviously our farm grown baby. He knows how to call the dog. He smacks his lips together and claps. His first sentence? "Hi Chicken". He says "chicken". Pretty clearly, too..for an almost 14 month old. He is pulling up on everything now. His new favorite hobby is lobbing things into the bathtub. He claps when he does this because he is so proud. We have to keep the bathroom door closed. I am so afraid he will fall in the bathtub. We've also discovered he loves, loves, loves M&M's. Little traitor to the Mother Candy. He claps, screams, jumps and makes happy noises when he even sees the damn things. He learned how to crawl, in the traditional sense. He doesn't use it as his main mode of movement but he does pull it out a few times a day.
It was a busy week or so. Hadley, Mom, Matty, Emmy and I went to the Herb Festival. We broke the Jeep, the push mower and the roto tiller. We killed our broccoli and tomato plants. 2 chicks hatched(go Big Sexay). Nutsy died. We tried to go to Poppi's Law Enforcement day yesterday, only to find that they broke it down 3 hours early. Oh, and we've been preparing for Grammy and Papa's auction on Tuesday. I am not looking forward to it. On a happier note I discovered over the weekend that I can fit into clothing that I haven't been able to wear since before I was pregnant with Lennon. I am at my lowest(after kids) weight since before Lennon also. Go me!
Speaking of Lennon, he is hard on shoes. Or maybe shoes just don't pass down well. A few weeks ago I had him in a pair of sandals that were Corb's. He broke them, they busted right off the sole. Whatever, they were cheapy TCP ones. Last night, he busted through a pair of flip flops that were Corbs! I know he has gimongous(thanks for the word Corb) feet but they aren't that big. I see new shoes in his future.
And on to Corb. Dad got a new car(better gas millage). He was told Corb "I am going to drive this car for 10 years and then I can give it to you to drive". Corb got very excited. He sat in the drivers seat of the car. He looked in the back and said to Dad "There is a lot of room in the back. That is good. I will be able to take Hadley and Lennon with me in their car seats". HA!
Just an interesting side note about Hadley since I haven't really talked about her this post. The girl gets crazy hiccups if you make her laugh too hard/too long. The hiccups then cause her to laugh even harder which cause hicc-burps.
Including but not limited to the following:
1. Gypsy Moth caterpillars. They destroy trees and bushes. That is bad enough. I am one of the lucky that gets a nasty welt if I come in contact with one of the little buggers. They are really bad this year, they are calling it an "outbreak year". This occurs every 5-10 years. They were last year as well but here, in our backyard, it is much worse than last year. The state has tripled the area it is going to be spraying this year in hopes to control the "outbreak". You go outside only to find yourself with a bunch of the little things on you. It is disgusting. We cleared all the nests from our trees but they are invading us from the nearby wooded area. Luckily, the kids don't seem to be affected. It is more annoying than painful. And, this should only be for a few weeks while they are in caterpillar stage. Once late June hits they will start morphing into moths.
2. While insanely cute, the fact that Ozzy is still scooting on his bum is well, bumming me out. Not because I want him to walk. By no means. It is for his clothing I fear. That boy has already ruined most of his shorts for this summer and we aren't even into summer. I am not just talking grass and dirt stains..nooooooo no no! The Oz is taking a step further to ensure desctruction by making giant holes in the ass of all his shorts. Beyond repair ginormous holes. Sure, I could stick him out in just a diaper and I have. The result? A torn up holey diaper(if in cloth). Or a spewing of whatever the hell disposable diapers are made of all over the yard. It is a no win situation. So, Oz, do us a favor and just start walking already.
Um, actually that is all I have for now. Those were 2 of my big issues today. Hey, if those are my only problems life ain't too bad, eh?
An action packed super fun time weekend we had! Hmm...too much Star Wars watching. Sounding like Yoda I am.
Last Friday we went to the Zoo. It was greatly needed. We had been stuck inside all week due to the weather, raining and cold. Corby's favorite thing at the zoo was the alligator. Lennon's favorite was the snakes. Hadley's were the spoonbills(because they are pink! ;) Ozzy really got a kick out of the prairie dogs. My favorite is always the raven. We had pizza for lunch. Then, Hadley got to stay with Mom and Dad for the weekend. She was very excited. I was a little worried that we would be getting a call in the middle of the night to come and get her. She has been away from home overnight before but she gets a little homesick when she is away. Mom did say she had a moment where she missed all of us and had some tears but she that quickly recovered. I am proud of her for being brave about being away.
Saturday the boys and I went to the Cherry Blossom Festival. The Festival itself was high on the lame scale unless you had money to blow on "carnival" games and food, which we don't. I decided to head down one of the roads to check out the nearby river, thinking we could see the Ferry that just started running again after it's winter break. As we walked down the road I saw a sign that said "Model Train Show". We followed the signs to an old train station by the RR tracks that had been restored. Inside they had a huge model train set-up. Corby was in train heaven. I think we hung out there for almost an hour while he just stared. He is still talking about it. After we pulled him away from the trains we did get to see the river. Corby refused to get closer than 20 feet because he was convinced that if he sneezed he would fall in. Silly.
After the CBF, we went to the Ned Smith Center. They have an annual Native plant sale every year. We decided to go and see what they had. It was pretty neat, and the prices aren't bad. We might pick some things up next year. While we were there we decided to go for a walk since it was such a nice day. We went over the bridge, which Lennon insisted was his. Lennon loved throwing rocks and sticks off of the bridge into the water below. Corby was more interested in walking on some of the trails.
Sunday, Clint wanted to go into work for some OT. I made plans to meet Mom, Dad, Hadley and Matty at Fort Hunter for a Garden Festival. Since it was about 5 min away from Clint's work he just dropped the boys and I off at the Festival and then picked us up again when we were done. The kids had so much fun! They each got to pick a flower and they each got a tree(2 red oaks and a redbud). We had a picnic type lunch on the grass under the shade of some really, really big trees. Corb really liked how big the trees were. The kids got to try on "period" clothing(civil war time) and they got to make butter. There was a section that had activities for kids. They all blew bubbles, colored, made a ladybug, tried walking on stilts, threw beanbags and their favorite thing of the day..."painting" the fence. There were buckets of water with brushes in them and squirt bottles. I think they all did this for about an hour. Guess who is going to be buying some squirt bottles on her next trip to walfart. Oh yeah. After a few hours I called Clint to come and pick us up. While we waited the kids played at the small park they had there. They all fell asleep on the way home. We planted their trees in the chicken yard that evening. They each got to pick a spot for their tree and help plant it. They were very excited.
A good portion of the garden has been planted. So far we have in Peas, Potatoes, Broccoli, Onions, Carrots and Tomatoes(inside yet). The Strawberries and Raspberries are looking fab-u-lous. It is fun to see everything growing outside again.
The Geese and Ducks are doing their job. Very well. They've already saved us hours of weeding. Once the whole garden is planted, they won't be able to be in it to weed until the plants get bigger. For that time we are going to put them in the orchard to eat the grass. We hope it is as successful at saving us mowing time. I am very glad we decided to get them. Even Clint sings their praises to everyone that asks about them.
This week the weather has turned cooler, cold even. Since we can't be outside all day like we were last week I decided to start Spring Cleaning. Yesterday I got our bedroom done. It is cleaner than Martha's house and delightfully clutter free. I even went through my closet and drawer to weed out clothing that is much too big for me now. Today I plan on tackling the kids bedroom. Ooo..scary.
The lilacs are just about ready to bloom. I am going to bring a few inside today to put in a vase on the kitchen table. I just love how they smell.
Ozzy is busting out his last 2 molars. They are so close to breaking the gums. I can't wait until they come out and we can be done with this teething business for a little while. Teething blows. He has really picked up on eating solid food in the last week or so. He eats a ton! Which, has resulted(or is the result of?) in not eating from me as often. Woo hoo! He is down to 1-2 times a day(nap and before bed) and then 1-2 times at night. With the exception of the last day or 2 when the teething got really intense.
Hadley and Corby went to the dentist for the first time yesterday. I know, we are slow. Anyway, they went and they said they had fun. Not how I would describe a trip to the dentist. They got to see a train(the dentist office is in front of some RR tracks), they got toofbrushes and they each got a toy. Corb was sad to see that his "gum" was really a trick gum with a bug on it. He thought it was actual gum. Oops. The dentist said that their teeth look great. All are in, and coming in straight. No decay. Woot!
I just noticed out the window that the Gold Finches have gotten their Spring/Summer feathers. They are BRIGHT neon yellow! They are really pretty. I hope they stick around all summer. There are 2 in the driveway right now. Ooo, and a Blue Bird just landed in the tree. Hmmm...a rainbow of birds. HA!
